1. How do I list a turtle or tortoise for adoption
To place an animal up for adoption fill out the placement application form. If you have any additional questions email Applications.

2 Are the animals adopted through Turtle Homes captive bred or wild caught?
Both. Once an animal is in captivity and displaced from it's exact natural habitat, exposed to other turtles and tortoises or become sick they can't be returned to the wild. Although we prefer dealing in captive bred animals we do not distinguish between them when we try to find them a good home.

3. Does it matter why I am giving up an animal?
Turtle Homes does not question the reasons a person is giving up and animal and it is assumed without asking that the owner loves the animal and is trying to find it the best home they can. For this reason we ask no personal questions.

4. Does Turtle Homes deal in any other reptiles other than turtles and tortoises?
While Turtle Homes is dedicated to turtles and tortoises, we do occasionally get in other reptiles for adoption. We will try to place them with the same screening process we use for the turtles and tortoises.

5. Who pays for the shipping?
If you own a turtle or tortoise that you are adopting out, the adopting person is responsible for shipping cost. This is an honor system. We do not take responsibility for the exchange of funds between adopting parties. For this reason we suggest although not required that the shipping be prepaid before the turtle or tortoise is shipped. This is the case for all turtles and tortoises except red eared sliders. The person looking for a home for their red eared slider is responsible for the shipping charges.

6. How do I ship an animal?
Turtle Homes has an entire section dedicated to shipping. This includes downloadable labels for the box. We cannot recommend one shipper over another. Shipping through the US Post Office is against postal regulations. Delta Dash and Airborne Express will accept the shipping of live turtles and tortoises although Airborne Express does not guarantee live delivery.

7. How do I ship in the winter?
Turtle Homes does not recommend shipping turtles and tortoises in the winter. We do not ship for several months while it is too cold. During this time, we arrange foster placement for spring adoptions, continue discussions on our active mailing list, and work on special conservation project
